Shortly after 2 a.m. today, a fatal traffic crash claimed the life of a 29-year-old St. Petersburg woman in the 900 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South.

The crash occurred when a white Toyota Camry attempted to back out of the parking lot of Sunshine Food Mart at 901 MLK Jr. St. S. When the Toyota entered the roadway, a black Jeep Wrangler, traveling southbound on MLK Jr. St. S., struck the Toyota's passenger side.

Tamara Williams (29), who was a passenger in the Toyota, died on scene. Her next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the Toyota and a passenger in the Jeep were transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Jeep was uninjured. He remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

The investigation remains open and active.
