Shortly after 10 a.m. today, a traffic crash at the intersection of 38th Avenue North and 66th Street North claimed the life of a 66-year-old St. Petersburg woman.

Joanne Greehan was driving a gray Nissan Sentra northbound on 66th Street North when the vehicle made an improper left turn onto 38th Avenue North. The Nissan entered the path of a red Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling southbound on 66th Street.

The vehicles collided, sending the Nissan off the roadway, where it struck a pole.

Greehan was transported to HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Her next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the Ford F-150 sustained minor injuries. He remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The intersection was closed for more than one hour while traffic homicide officers investigated the crash scene.
