A sexual assault investigation led St. Petersburg Police detectives to Illinois to make an arrest, and investigators believe there may be more victims here locally in the Bay Area.
Detectives say Joshua Abercrombie, DOB 7-8-2004, met a young woman through a social media app and they decided to meet up late in November. During their date, he became aggressive and sexually assaulted and choked her repeatedly.
On January 29, 2026, Abercrombie was taken into custody in Will County, Illinois, on an arrest warrant stemming from the case reported in St. Petersburg. He is charged with sexual battery. His booking photo is below.
Detectives believe there could be additional victims who have not yet come forward and are urging them to contact police. Information can be provided confidentially.
Anyone with information related to this case, or who believes they may have had contact with Abercrombie under similar circumstances, is urged to contact the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-7780 or text SPPD + tip information to TIP411.
