Update: Stabbing Death Investigation

Shortly before 6 p.m., Friday, May 23rd, Officers responded to a stabbing at 364 1 Avenue North, Ahi Tuna.

The wounded man, Dustin Hedenberg, was transported to Bayfront Hospital where he died. His next of kin has been notified.

Through their investigation, detectives learned that Hedenberg had been behaving erratically and punched a person at the Scientology Center at 336 1st Avenue North moments before the stabbing.

Hedenberg then made his way to Ahi Sushi where he engaged in a heated confrontation with business owner Fayun Zhang. Hedenberg struck Zhang, knocked him down and began punching him.

At one point Zhang grabbed a screwdriver and stabbed Hedenberg. Hedenberg was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Zhang has not been charged at this time. Detectives will confer with the State Attorney's Office as they continue to investigate to determine if charges are warranted.

Shortly before 6 p.m., officers were called to a stabbing outside of Ahi Sushi , 364 1st Avenue North.

A man was stabbed during an altercation. He was transported to the hospital where he died a short time later.

Officers are questioning two men.

First Avenue North is currently closed between 3rd and 4th streets.

It is still early in the investigation. More details will be released as they become available.
