Update: Fatal Crash 62 Ave. NE

At 7:15 a.m., a 2012 white Ford F250 pick-up truck was eastbound on 62ndAvenue Northeast. For reasons unknown the driver, David Hawkins, Jr. (35, St. Petersburg) continued eastbound on 62nd Avenue Northeast, to where the roadway ends. The Ford went through the guard rail and into the grassy area. The Ford continued eastbound striking trees and then went into the water.

A citizen called to report a vehicle in the water. Fire Rescue responded and located the driver in the Ford. The driver was pronounced deceased on scene. Next of kin has been notified.

The roadway was closed during the investigation and is now reopened. The investigation is still on going.


Vehicle Found in Water near 62nd Ave. N. And Bayou Grande Blvd

This morning shortly before 7:30 a.m., a caller reported a pickup truck upside down in the water several feet from shore.

Fire Rescue also responded and confirmed that the body of an adult man was found inside.

The pickup truck has not been reported stolen.

Investigators are being called in and there are no other details available.
