Update: Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force Investigates Deputy Involved Shooting

Shortly after 6 p.m., April 8th, the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force was called to investigate a shooting involving a Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy.

After reviewing the video and the investigative information, St. Petersburg Chief Anthony Holloway said, "We are not seeking to file any criminal charges against the deputy for the use of deadly force. The suspect, Amy Jaeger is charged with attempted homicide, armed residential burglary, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer."

The suspect is identified as Amy Jaeger, DOB 4-12-79. She remains in critical condition. The victim is in stable condition.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Pinellas Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Ryan shot a woman who was armed with a knife. The Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Task Force was called to the scene.

Tonight, Chief of St. Petersburg Police Anthony Holloway gave a briefing with some preliminary facts. He will review the investigators' findings and issue a final report In a few days.

Summary:

The Deputy responded to a call of an armed person at a house at 14041 95th Ave N., Seminole.

A 44-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man ,who are living together in a domestic relationship, had an argument. The argument turned violent, and the woman stabbed the man multiple times. The photo of the knife is below.

He was able to escape and run to the neighbor's home for help. The woman chased him and used a second knife to try to pry open the neighbor's front door.

At that point, the deputy arrived on the scene. The woman then walked towards the Deputy with the knife raised. The Deputy ordered her to drop the knife several times and she continued to advance . The deputy then fired several shots at her.

This evening, the victim, the 70 year-old man, is in stable condition at the hospital. The suspect, the 44-year-old woman, is hospitalized in critical condition. Her name will be released once investigators contact her next of kin.

The deputy was not injured. Deputy Christopher Ryan has been with the Pinellas County Sheriff's office for three years. He is on paid administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.

Background on the task force:
In 2020, the Pinellas County Use of Deadly Force Investigative Taskforce was created to ensure the investigations conducted into law enforcement use of deadly force are thorough, complete, and objective. The purpose of this taskforce is to make sure that officer-involved shootings in Pinellas County are investigated by an independent agency and not by the agency involved in the use of deadly force.
