Bicyclist Injured In February Traffic Crash Dies

A bicyclist injured in a traffic crash in late February has died.

Rainner Brown (DOB 11/15/56) of St. Petersburg, was pronounced deceased Saturday, March 11, at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Shortly before midnight Feb. 28, Brown was riding a bicycle across 18th Avenue South near 19th Street South when he entered the path of a Mazda 6 sedan. He was not in a crosswalk and had not activated the pedestrian crossing light prior to entering the street.

The driver of the Mazda did not see the bicyclist and was unable to avoid hitting the bicycle. The driver of the Mazda remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Brown was not wearing a helmet when the crash occurred. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

The investigation remains open and active.
